About Dr. Jones
Jeff takes pride in the fact that, while he is an active speaker and consultant, he is still working “in the trenches” of K-12 education as a school superintendent. His career started out as a teacher and coach. He eventually became a school counselor and was recognized as his state’s school counselor of the year.
Jeff became a school principal at the age of 32, where he became his school’s fourth principal in just six years. He inherited a school culture where the lack of consistent leadership had taken a toll on the capacity of the students and staff. He launched into his new role and took the toxic minority head on. Commitments on foundational priorities were re-established, and the positive majority rallied. Their voices and influence created a momentum that launched the school into being one of the highest performing schools in the state. With a philosophy grounded in shared leadership, schools under his direction have routinely shown significant improvements.
When asked about his formula for success, Jeff is quick to point out, “It is about keeping things simple. Before we look to add, we ask ourselves, What can we currently improve upon and what can we delete? When we look to solutions for our challenges, the first place we look is in the mirror. We don’t waste energy chasing new programs only to see them end up in the ‘Program Cemetery’ two years later. In the end, it is really simple. Put your trust in people, not programs. Recommit every single day to really basic agreements such as ‘Mutual Respect, Mutual Responsibility.’ Don’t forget, the most valuable resource you have in this business is your heart for other people.”
Jeff currently resides in Sheridan, Wyoming with his family.

Jeff’s doctoral dissertation is entitled, “The Perceptions of Wyoming Public School Administrators on the Use of Corporal Punishment in Wyoming Public Schools.” Wyoming is one of 19 states where corporal punishment is still legal in public schools. Jeff is currently working with state legislators on legislation that would have Wyoming come off that list.
